Rick Ballow Catches 256.7 Pound Halibut, New 2nd Place Leader
VALDEZ – Rick Ballow of Valdez brought a 256.7 pound halibut back to Port Valdez Tuesday, June 30th. While a fish that size might win the $15,000 first place prize in the Valdez Halibut Derby some years, it won't be enough this year. Marvin Ray Williams of Fairbanks, Alaska is still in line to win the big money with the 275.6 pound halibut he caught June 7th aboard the Otter Dodger. If Ballow remains in 2nd place he will take home $5,000 in cash for 2nd place. Ballow also stands a great chance of winning the weekly 1st place prize for week number 6 of the derby.
