Stahley Wins the First Big Prize Friday in Silver Salmon Derby

This years Big Prize Friday winner, in the Valdez Silver Salmon Derby is Tim Stahley from Middlebury, IN. By catching the largest silver salmon for that day he hooked himself a Zodiac Inflatable Raft worth over $1250 in addition to the daily prizes. Stahley caught his winning 15.92 pound silver aboard the Lucky 2. The last chance to win an inflatable raft will be on the last Big Prize Friday of the derby August 31st.

A woman from Merritt Island, FL has given silver salmon anglers competition by bringing in a 17 pound silver. Susan Demuth now leads the silver salmon derby with her large sized fish. She hooked her silver aboard Swifies II, August 1st. Bob Chase of Copper Center is in 2nd place in the salmon derby with his 16.02 pounder he caught August 4th aboard Shelby 1. Coming in 3rd is Tim Stahley, with his 15.92 pound silver.
                       
The Valdez Halibut Derby is still going strong. At the end of Week 10 Jim Adams has not seen any competition for his 1st place standing in the derby. Adams caught his 340 pound halibut July 28th aboard the Otter Dodger and measures 90.5 inches in length. Standing in 2nd place is Rob Rachow of Hager City, WI with his 328 pounder he reeled in aboard the Harvester. Still holding onto 3rd is Bonnie Woods of Valdez with her 274.5 pound flat fish she caught aboard the No Excuses in June.

The weigh-in station for the Valdez Fish Derbies is open from Noon to 9pm. Derby tickets for both the salmon and halibut derbies are $10 each and are good for one day of fishing in the derby. A season ticket for either species is $50.
