Derby FAQs
Who can participate in the 2009 Kids' Derby?
Any kid in the following age divisions:
- Age: 5-7
- Age: 8-10
- Age:11-13
- Age:14-16
How do I register?
You don't need to register to fish. To register, catch a fish, then bring it to the weigh-in station. There we'll take your name, fish weight, and then give you a ticket for the BBQ/door prize. If available, we'll also give you a free t-shirt.
What if I don't catch a fish?
Come by the weigh-in station anyway, and let us know that you tried. We'll still give you a ticket to the BBQ.
When & where do I weigh my fish?
Between 10:00am and 5:00pm on Saturday, July 18. Valdez Fish Derbies' weigh-in station is located next to the Harbormaster's office at the Valdez Harbor.
What will Valdez Fish Derbies do with my picture?
Valdez Fish Derbies will take a photo of every child that weighs a fish. If parent/guardian signs a release form, the photo will be posted on the VFD website. Winner pictures will be released to the media only if parent/guardian over the age of 18 has signed the release.
BBQ FAQs
Who can go to the BBQ?
Kid's Derby participants and their friends and family.
Who gets a ticket?
Kids age 5-16. Be sure to tell kids to BRING their ticket to the BBQ and KEEP their TICKET for a chance to win door prizes.
How do I get a ticket?
Catch a fish and weigh it at the weigh-in station. If you don't catch a fish, come by the weigh-in station anyway, and let us know that you tried. We'll still give you a ticket to the BBQ.
How much does it cost?
It's FREE! No fees for the derby or for the BBQ.
Do adults and children under 4 need a ticket to the BBQ?
No, as long as they accompany a Kid's Derby participant, the BBQ is free.
When is it?
We will begin serving food at 5pm, July 18th, Saturday, at Dock Point.
