Where does the Women's Fish Derby take place?
All vessels fishing in the Derby must leave from and return to the Valdez, Alaska, small boat harbor. Fishing is also allowed from shore, but all fish must be taken from saltwater only and must comply with all State of Alaska fishing regulations.
Who needs a ticket for the Women's Fishing Derby?
On a private boat, EVERYONE WHO FISHES must have a Valdez Fish derby ticket to be eligible. NOT everyone needs a Women’s Fish Derby Registration Dog Tag, however only women who have pre-registered for Women’s Fish Derby will be eligible for Women’s Fish Derby Prizes. (Since you have to purchase a regular derby ticket in addition to women’s derby registration, you are eligible to win Silver Salmon derby prizes)
When can I weigh my fish?
Weigh-In for Women’s Derby closes at 6pm (Regular Derby Weigh-In closes at 9pm).
When will I know who the winners are?
Standings for women’s derby WILL NOT be announced until the Closing Ceremony, Saturday night at Civic Center, 8pm. Weights will be posted on the weigh in station leader board at 8pm.
Can I weigh more than one fish?
Women’s derby participants are encouraged to weigh in their TOP WEIGHT FISH (only your largest fish will be counted). Women are eligible for 1 prize only.
Can men participate?
Men are welcome to attend events, however they will not be eligible to win door prizes and will be charged a $20 admission fee per event. (Women's Admission is FREE to both Opening & Closing Events with $50 Registration).
